Documentation is important in any medical practice, but especially so in the Pain Management space. Historically insurance has audited Pain Management providers more often than any other specialty due to the nature of patient complexity and the high level of care involved.
From the first consultation visit, the patient record must be detailed, clear, and concise for the patient`s treatment plan. With all the changes to Evaluation and Management (E&M) since 2021 and upcoming changes in 2023 providers must adapt and update their templates and records to be sure they stay compliant.

Stephanie Thomas CPC CANPC has over 20 years in the medical billing world. She owns a billing, coding, and consulting company and serves private practices across the US. Early in her career she spent 9 years in a clinic setting where she was not only working in billing but also front desk manager, surgery scheduling, medical assisting and more. Her unique experience gives her a different view on medical billing, understanding the medical office and flow and how to create and implement processes and make them work to build strong teams.
