Description

A significant number of personnel in a hospital are support staff who have no direct contact with patients. These include:

  • Attorneys – large hospitals typically have an in-house attorney.  Many hospitals will use an executive search firm to identify viable candidates.
  • CPAs –Often hired through contact with universities and professional associations.
  • Licensed Professional Engineers and Architects – rarely kept on staff except during major construction or renovations.
  • Maintenance staff – hired through contact with unions, employment agencies, hospital websites, and postings at the hospital.
  • Cooks - employment agencies, hospital websites, and postings at the hospital.
  • Janitors - employment agencies, hospital websites, and postings at the hospital.
  • Bookkeepers - employment agencies, hospital websites, and postings at the hospital.
  • Board of Directors members – initially appointed by the founder of the hospital and then hired by other board members.
  • CEO/President – hired by the board.  Executive search firms typically identify viable candidates.
  • Department heads – hired by the board or the CEO/President. Executive search firms are often used. The board or CEO/President will often contact universities and professional associations.
